Shade 8 artist and BETA tester, Jürgen Schulz, who won the prestigious German Animago-award with a Shade illustration has said about his images created with Shade, “Without Shade, images would be impossible to realize in such a short time. The program is rich in features which I use to make realistic images easily.”

In Summer 1994, I was trying to make illustrating my profession, using my Powerbook. That was when I was first introduced to Shade...At that time, making 3DCG illustration didn't seem reasonable for a struggling artist. Shade III light - the less expensive version of Shade at that time - gave me the power of 3DCG with quick response, beautiful rendering and powerful modeling. After I met Shade, I became an independent illustrator.

Shade 3D Star Wars Lego

I was impressed with the realism of the renders and the fact that the curved surfaces and line objects were manipulated using bezier handles like I was used to using in Adobe Illustrator. I ended up purchasing Shade R5/E for use for a photo retouching project and then began to put together the Lego in my spare time. Working on each part individually, I modelled the outside of each piece as well as the inside so that they would look correct when viewed from any angle.
